The Stone House - Available November to March
Winter in the Ionian, without the tourist throngs of summer, is a painter’s and writer’s dream; the light is at its clearest and sunsets turn the limestone cliffs from natural grey through orange, pink and mauve, a dramatic yet peaceful haven for inspiration. The weather from November to March is usually mild sunny days with some rain. The village of Stavros, 2 miles away, has a bakery, supermarket, general store, two butchers, fishmonger, post office, ATM machine and tavernas. Vathy, the island’s capital, has several banks, supermarkets, clothing shops, tavernas etc. For those who appreciate ecology and activity, walks along ancient goat tracks are a journey into magnificent dereliction, through abandoned olive groves and vineyards with breathtaking views over the neighbouring islands and mainland. Flora and fauna are at their best. Botanists and gardeners will discover paradise – a huge landscape piled on a tiny island, with a sea of wild flowers in spring.
