About Us

Hello, I'm Julian Roderick, your crew and skipper and Tihama is my boat and our home.

I was born in Rugby in the UK and I started sailing Swan yachts in the Solent in 1975. Whilst competing in races on the south coast and over to the Channel Islands, France and Ireland I learned my way around the boat starting as usual on the winches. Over the next ten years I also cruised and delivered yachts between Finland, Germany, the Mediterranean, America, Bermuda, Australia and New Zealand. I competed on three Fastnet and three Newport/Marion to Bermuda races, the latter crossing the Gulf Stream, an interesting event for any yachtsman. My other hobby was motor rallying and over a long period I competed in many events including seven RAC rallies.

I purchased Tihama in 1989 and following an extensive refit over the winter we sailed from Southampton to Paxos in July 1990 a passage of 3,000 miles. Loggos in Paxos has been home for Tihama since then providing an excellent base for cruising the islands of the Ionian Sea during the summer. I am always happy to pass on my sailing experience and take on board yours. There is always something to learn, it is part of the fun.

Your crew aboard Tihama will be me; skipper, sailor, navigator, cook and chief bottle washer. I'll tell you stories, wake you up in the morning and tuck you to bed at night! However, sometimes we will have another crew member aboard, including my son Jody at times.

My general dogsbody on the 'phone in London and sometime crew member is Brie, who has absolutely no sailing experience but loves Tihama and the islands just the same, indeed we met on Paxos. Brie is always happy to talk to the non-sailors among you and allay any worries you may have.

We hope to welcome you aboard Tihama soon and have the opportunity of showing you our spiritual home.
